FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Find clear answers to common queries regarding your home heating system, boiler maintenance and gas safety requirements.
How do I top up my boiler pressure?
Check your boiler manufacturer's instructions first, as systems vary. Many boilers have a filling loop or filling mechanism used to increase the pressure. When the system is cold, the pressure is commonly around 1 to 1.5 bar, but always follow the guidance for your particular boiler.
How often should I have my boiler serviced?
A boiler should generally be serviced once a year. Regular servicing helps identify problems and checks that the boiler is operating safely and correctly.
What is a gas safety certificate (CP12)?
A Gas Safety Record, often called a CP12, records the results of gas safety checks carried out at a property by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
Do landlords need a gas safety certificate?
Landlords have legal gas-safety responsibilities and generally need annual gas safety checks on relevant gas appliances and flues in rented properties. The required record must also be provided to tenants where applicable.
Why is my boiler losing pressure?
Check the boiler display, thermostat, power supply and boiler pressure for an obvious problem. If you cannot identify the cause or the boiler shows a fault, arrange for a qualified engineer to investigate it.
